Ohio EPA Awards Environmental Education Grant to Hamilton County Organization
BrainBox Ltd., will host a landlord training event to teach property owners how to integrate sustainable practices into their rental properties, funded in part with a $5,000 Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant. A total of seven grants were awarded statewide for $32,319.
The training will focus on landlords who own five units or more, or the properties’ managers. The benefits of incorporating sustainable initiatives on their properties will be emphasized along with providing resources that they can pass along to their tenants.
Topics will include sustainable lawn care, storm water management, energy efficiency, air quality, curbside and commercial recycling options. There will also be a legal component to help develop lease-related language.
The next OEEF application deadline will be July 15, with an electronic letter of intent to apply due no later than July 8.
The Ohio Environmental Education Fund is administered by Ohio EPA. Eligible grant recipients include environmental groups, public and private schools, colleges and universities, trade or professional organizations, businesses and state and local governments. For additional information, contact the Ohio Environmental Education Fund online or at (614) 644-2873.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
