Ohio EPA received another round of test results today from homeowners in the village of Sebring who asked to have their tap water tested and 84 of the 87 samples were below the federal allowable limit for lead.

Ohio EPA Releases Sixth Round of Voluntary Household Test Results from Sebring
Ohio EPA received another round of test results today from homeowners in the village of Sebring who asked to have their tap water tested and 94 of the 97 samples were below the federal allowable limit for lead. Ohio EPA ordered the village of Sebring on January 21 to offer free water testing for any homeowner who asked and will make those results public as they are received.

Ohio EPA Issues Another Notice of Violation to Sebring
On Jan. 21, 2016, Ohio EPA Director Craig Butler mandated that the village offer free water testing for any resident who requested it to give them piece of mind about the quality of their drinking water. Since then, 664 of 698 samples tested below the federal allowable level, including results received today. The village is required to notify any resident of their lead results and provide them with an information sheet detailing how to minimize their lead risk. A previous notice of violation to the village of Sebring on Jan. 21 reaffirmed that responsibility.

Ohio EPA ordered the village of Sebring on January 21 to offer free water testing for any homeowner who asked and will make those results public as they are received.

Ohio EPA Releases Results from Voluntary Testing in Sebring
Recent water samples taken by the village of Sebring for homeowners who asked to have their tap water tested show lead levels in most homes are below the federal allowable limit. Of the 259 total water samples collected since Ohio EPA required the village to continue to offer testing of residential water on Jan. 21, 2016, 250 samples tested below the federal allowable level. Additional sample results are expected in the days ahead.

Recent water samples taken by the village of Sebring for homeowners who asked to have their tap water tested show lead levels in most homes are below the federal allowable limit. Of the 54 water samples collected from 53 homes since Ohio EPA required the village to continue to offer testing of residential water on Jan. 21, 2016, 54 samples tested below the federal allowable level.

Niles to Improve Wastewater Treatment; Receiving Financing from Ohio EPA
Niles will rehabilitate, expand and upgrade its wastewater treatment plant to increase wet weather storage and treatment capacity using a loan from Ohio EPA. The project will improve water quality in the Mahoning River.

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources headquarters in Columbus. The meeting will be held in ODNR’s Conference Center, 2045 Morse Road, Building E.

Ohio EPA Receives Results from Water Testing at Sebring-Area Schools
Extensive water samples taken by Ohio EPA Sunday evening at three local schools near Sebring show that 121 of the 123 samples are below the federal allowable level, and those that were above the federal allowable level are contained to drinking water fountains, not the incoming water supply to the building. Some older drinking water fountains, some of which have been recalled, have been shown to be problematic due to internal parts containing lead. Ohio EPA has provided this information to the Mahoning County director of public health and the superintendent of schools so they can determine when schools will open and take any precautionary measures that may be appropriate.

Additional Water Samples Show Improvement in Sebring; Some Residents Still Impacted
As the village of Sebring makes changes to its water chemistry to reduce corrosion in homeowners’ piping, new water sampling results show progress as 25 of the 28 homes where water samples were taken are below the federal guidelines. In addition, 15 water samples were taken at three local schools and all but one sample was lower than the allowable level.

Judge Grants State’s Request to Order Abandoned Steel Plant to Treat Industrial Wastewater and Secure the Site
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Director Craig W. Butler today announced that a Trumbull County judge has granted the state’s request for a temporary restraining order against Warren Steel, after it shut down last week, abandoning hazardous chemicals and wastewater on its site.

Ohio EPA is accepting public comments until February 16, 2016 on a draft air permit for a proposed natural gas compressor station in the Hanoverton area of Columbiana County. The compressor station would be located near the intersection of State Route 644 and Ridgeway Road and is intended to facilitate delivery of natural gas along the Nexus Gas Transmission (NGT) pipeline.
