2018 Ohio Sport Fish Consumption Advisory Highlights Significant Improvements
Ohio EPA has announced the state’s new guidelines for eating fish caught from Ohio’s lakes, rivers and streams. Fish can be part of a healthy diet. Unless otherwise notated in the new recommendations, a general advisory is in place that recommends limiting to one meal each week of Ohio-caught fish.

Alternative Fuels Vehicle Conversion Grants Still Available
Ohio EPA is offering one-time funding to help municipalities, schools and businesses convert diesel-powered heavy-duty fleet vehicles to run on cleaner burning alternative fuels. Fifteen grants have been awarded so far with $2.2 million still available.

2017 Western Lake Erie Monitoring Study Shows High Phosphorous Levels
The Spring 2017 Western Lake Erie Tributary Water Monitoring Summary, released today, again shows high levels of phosphorous headed to Lake Erie. Exacerbated by wet weather, the total phosphorus load in the Maumee River was elevated to more than twice the required reduction targets (40 percent by 2025) identified in the Binational Water Quality Agreement.

Ohio EPA Offers Alternative Fuel Vehicle Conversion Grants
A new grant from Ohio EPA will assist owners of diesel- or gasoline-powered class 7 and 8 vehicles (weighing at least 26,000 pounds) to convert or replace engines to use compressed natural gas (CNG), liquified natural gas (LNG), or liquid petroleum gas (LPG, such as propane or butane). These cleaner fuels and technologies help improve air quality by reducing diesel emissions such as nitrogen oxide and fine particulates. Grants also may be used for bi-fueled or dual-fueled vehicles that can run on both an alternative fuel and gasoline or diesel fuel.

Ohio EPA Sets Record Year with Nearly $1 Billion to Improve Water Quality in 2017
Ohio EPA issued more than $936 million this year to finance projects that upgrade drinking water infrastructure and improve the quality of Ohio’s lakes, rivers and streams — more than ever before in the 28-year history of the state’s revolving loan programs. All Ohio EPA loans are provided to communities at below market rates, and this year resulted in a combined savings of more than $150 million for Ohio’s counties, cities and villages.

Ohio EPA Schedules Public Meetings on Plans for Volkswagen Settlement
Ohio EPA is asking for public comment on a plan to invest $75 million over the next 10 years to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollution. Funding will come from dollars allocated to Ohio from the Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund. Three regional public information sessions are scheduled for January 2018 to explain how the plan was developed and to answer questions.
