Valleyview Mobile Home Park Agrees to Upgrade Wastewater System

As part of an agreement with Ohio EPA, the owners of Valleyview Mobile Home Park, 110 E. Hickory Grove Road, Urbana, have agreed to upgrade its wastewater handling and treatment system and institute a regular sampling schedule for the treated wastewater. Ohio EPA has received a wastewater permit application from the facility and is awaiting the submittal of a permit-to-install application and engineering plans for a new wastewater treatment system.

Valleyview is a 48-unit mobile home park that has operated since before 1970. The facility received a wastewater discharge permit permit in 2003; however, the facility failed to renew that permit when it expired in 2008. The system in use allows for wastewater clarification but not disinfection. Wastewater is then discharged underground where it can drain into the aquifer.

The facility owners have until October 2013 to complete construction and begin operating the new wastewater treatment system. Ohio EPA expects this to greatly improve the quality of the wastewater being discharged from the facility.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. In the past 40 years, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling. Ohio EPA….40 years and moving forward.
