Ohio EPA Schedules Public Hearing Regarding Ross Incineration Services

Ohio EPA will hold a Nov. 21, 2013, public hearing to accept comments concerning a proposed permit renewal for Ross Incineration Services in Grafton. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Grafton-Midview Public Library, 983 Main Street, Grafton.

Ohio EPA has issued a draft hazardous waste facility installation and operation permit renewal for Ross’s hazardous waste treatment and storage facility located at 36790 Giles Road. If issued final, the permit would allow the company to continue storing, treating and incinerating hazardous wastes from off-site generators. Prior to issuing the draft permit, Ohio EPA determined Ross continues to meet appropriate standards and has a history of compliance with Ohio’s hazardous waste laws.

Citizens may testify at the public hearing or submit comments in writing to: Ohio EPA Division of Materials and Waste Management, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio, 43216-1049. The public comment period ends Nov. 22, 2013. A decision on issuing a final permit will be made after considering all comments submitted by that date.

The draft permit and related materials are available online and at Ohio EPA’s Northeast District Office, 2110 E. Aurora Road, Twinsburg, by first calling (330) 963-1200. A copy of the permit is also available for review at the Grafton-Midview library.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
