Ohio EPA Awards Environmental Education Mini Grant To Washington SWCD for Learning Project
Ohio EPA has awarded a $1,388 environmental education mini grant to the Washington Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the Barlow Conservation Area. Nine projects throughout the state were funded for $35,192.
The grant will support development of a conservation education area with native grass and wild flower plantings to control erosion on a section of the Barlow Fairgrounds. Additionally, the grant will provide exhibits to educate the public about wildlife habitat and conflicts, soil erosion and conservation techniques. Programs at the Barlow Fairgrounds draw between 11,000 and 12,000 visitors annually to exchange ideas and learn new information about natural resources and farming.
The Ohio Environmental Education Fund awards funding each year for environmental education projects targeting kindergarten through university students, the general public and the regulated community. For more information, visit the Ohio Environmental Education Fund, or call (614) 644-2873.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
