Ohio EPA Awards Environmental Education Grant to Columbus Downtown Development Corporation

Ohio EPA, the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation (CDDC) and COSI are teaming up to educate the public about the Scioto Greenways project, now underway in downtown Columbus.

Ohio EPA issued a $39,000 environmental education grant to the CDDC for the project. Ohio EPA has awarded eight such grants statewide for a total of $264,361.

After the Main Street dam is removed to make way for 33 acres of green space, educational signs describing the environmental benefits of the dam removal and river restoration will be erected. COSI will collaborate with an interactive exhibit detailing the project.

The Ohio Environmental Education Fund is administered by Ohio EPA. For additional information, contact the Ohio Environmental Education Fund on the web or at (614) 644-2873.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
