Ohio EPA Awards Environmental Education Grant to Montgomery County Organization
Ohio EPA has awarded a $49,005 environmental education grant to the Dayton Society of Natural History, Boonshoft Museum of Discovery for “Global Connections,” a multi-media environmental education experience. Eight grants were awarded statewide for $264,361.
The grant will help fund an update and redesign of an existing National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) global display system. The system presents local and global data and environmental messaging in a direct and personalized way.
New, hands-on interactive outdoor activities will allow families to take part in: air monitoring and water quality testing.
Messages about personal choices and actions people can take at home to improve environmental quality will be coordinated with the ongoing GetUp Montgomery County program and other local health initiatives. Public Health -- Dayton and Montgomery County is collaborating.
The Ohio Environmental Education Fund is administered by Ohio EPA.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
