Ohio EPA Schedules Meeting to Discuss Odor Concerns
Ohio EPA has scheduled an Oct. 28, 2014, community meeting to update residents on efforts to identify and eliminate nuisance odors originating from Detrex Corporation located at 1100 State Road in Ashtabula Township. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room at Kent State University Ashtabula Campus, 3300 Lake Road West, Ashtabula.
Over the last several years, local officials and Ohio EPA have received numerous odor complaints from residents and businesses located in the vicinity of Detrex. Through frequent monitoring and inspection, Ohio EPA confirmed the odors were coming from the facility and has been working with the company to correct the problem.
Citizens wanting more information about the community meeting should contact Mike Settles in Ohio EPA’s Public Interest Center at (614) 644-2160 or email@example.com.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
