October 31, 2016 Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District to Improve Sewer System Through Funding from Ohio EPA; Sponsors Water Quality Projects
Ohio EPA has approved a $69.5 million low-interest loan to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) to aid in constructing combined sewer overflow storage tunnels. The Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) project will help bring NEORSD in compliance and improve the water quality of Lake Erie.
October 26, 2016 Wintersville to Improve Wastewater Treatment; Receiving Financing from Ohio EPA
Wintersville has received a $420,000 low-interest loan from Ohio EPA’s Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) to conduct a Sewer System Evaluation Survey (SSES). This study will help Wintersville identify (so that the village can subsequently eliminate) points at which sanitary sewers and storm water combine. As a result, the system will have fewer overflows into area streams. The improvement in water quality will help both public health and the environment.

October 21, 2016 Ohio EPA Awards $5,000 Environmental Education Grant to Cuyahoga County Organization
Kamm’s Corners Development Corporation in Cleveland will educate businesses and area residents about how they can use landscaping to help control storm water runoff with help from a $5,000 Ohio EPA grant. The community will retrofit existing green infrastructure with non-edible, perennial plants that will be serve two purposes – storm water control and public programming craft demonstrations.

Toledo Botanical Garden will use a $1,282 grant from Ohio EPA to host a one-day, six-hour training for 25 elementary school teachers that will provide hands-on lessons about pollution in waterways and how to manage urban runoff.

A request to modify a discharge permit for Cristal USA in Ashtabula will be the subject of a Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 Ohio EPA public meeting. An information session will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a public hearing at the Kent State Ashtabula Auditorium, 3300 Lake Road West.
October 20, 2016 Ohio EPA Awards $800 Environmental Education Grant to Hardin County Organization
Blanchard River Watershed Partnership will take a “snapshot” sample of the Blanchard River Watershed using funding from an Ohio EPA grant to Ohio Northern. The $800 Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant will support water chemistry sampling at several locations in the watershed and produce a “grade card” brochure to be distributed to the public.

First Congregational Church of Akron, will receive a $5,000 Ohio EPA environmental education grant to expand its current rainwater collection system and educate the public about how diverted water is used in the church’s produce garden.

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will use a $5,000 grant from Ohio EPA to place signs with maps throughout the Yellow Creek Watershed. The signs will help people understand how to protect surface water.

Ohio University, Department of geography, will use a $4,948 Ohio EPA education grant to provide the public with information about how rain gardens can be used as stormwater management tools.
October 19, 2016 Adams County Regional Water District to Improve Drinking Water System; Receiving Funding from Ohio EPA
Adams County will be upgrading its drinking water delivery system, in part, with help from an Ohio EPA loan. The project will install a 75,000-gallon elevated water storage tank, piping, valves and hydrants. Most of the funding for this approximately $524,000 project came from two $250,000 grants from the Ohio Public Works Commission and the Appalachian Regional Commission respectively. Ohio EPA provided a low-interest loan of $23,716 for the balance.

October 17, 2016 Toledo to Improve Wastewater Treatment and Protect High-Quality Wetlands; Receives Financing from Ohio EPA
Toledo will improve water quality in the Maumee River when the city installs an underground storage pipeline and basin to help minimize the effects of combined sewer overflows via its E3 International Park Storage Pipeline project. The project will be paid for in part through a $26.2 million low-interest loan from Ohio EPA’s Water Pollution Control Loan Fund.
