March 24, 2016 Ottawa River Restoration Plan Topic of Public Meeting
Ohio EPA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have issued a draft restoration plan and environmental assessment for the Ottawa River in Toledo. A public meeting will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 6 p.m. to discuss the plan and listen to comments. The meeting will be in Toledo City Council Chambers, One Government Center, 401 S. Erie St., Toledo.
March 23, 2016 Ohio EPA Decision Clears Way For Cleveland Harbor Dredging
Ohio EPA approved a request by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge the Cleveland Harbor and Cuyahoga River, which is essential to allowing shipping traffic to continue using this economically important waterway. No dredged material can be placed in the open lake.
March 9, 2016 Public Hearing Set for Otway Wastewater Discharge and Engineering Permits
Ohio EPA will present information and receive testimony at a public hearing for a proposed project that would establish sewer service in the village of Otway and discharge treated wastewater to Bloody Run, just above the confluence with Scioto Brush Creek. The information session and hearing will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016, in the Portsmouth Public Library, 1220 Gallia St., Portsmouth.

February 23, 2016 Ohio’s Recent Efforts to Strengthen Lake Erie Water Quality Give It Jump-Start on New Targets Announced by U.S. EPA
In Washington D.C. at a Great Lakes Commission semi-annual meeting today, U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will announce new state targets for reducing phosphorus in the Great Lakes. The 40 percent phosphorus reduction target identified by U.S. EPA is the same as that adopted earlier by Ohio through its 2013 Phosphorus Task Force II report and closely follows the path Ohio has already taken by working to establish the Western Lake Erie Basin Collaborative Agreement.

January 26, 2016 Ohio EPA Receives Results from Water Testing at Sebring-Area Schools
Extensive water samples taken by Ohio EPA Sunday evening at three local schools near Sebring show that 121 of the 123 samples are below the federal allowable level, and those that were above the federal allowable level are contained to drinking water fountains, not the incoming water supply to the building. Some older drinking water fountains, some of which have been recalled, have been shown to be problematic due to internal parts containing lead. Ohio EPA has provided this information to the Mahoning County director of public health and the superintendent of schools so they can determine when schools will open and take any precautionary measures that may be appropriate.
December 23, 2015 Mifflin to Improve Wastewater Treatment, Reduce Nutrients; Receiving Financing from Ohio EPA
A new wastewater treatment system will help Mifflin improve water quality in Charles Mill Lake by capturing and treating wastewater from 60 homes and 10 businesses currently served by home septic treatment systems (HSTS). Some of the existing systems are failing and cause water quality problems when untreated or partially-treated sewage migrates from individual properties to streams, lakes and other public recreational areas.

Clyde will improve water quality in Raccoon Creek leading to better water quality conditions in Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie when the city constructs a 1 million gallon equalization basin to reduce untreated sewer flows.
