Redesignations

On April 1, 2010, Ohio EPA submitted a Clean Data Request to USEPA for the PM2.5 Annual Standard. The request asks USEPA to make a determination of attainment of the PM2.5 annual standard for the currently nonattaining areas in the State of Ohio.  A clean data request and determination by USEPA does not relieve Ohio from Clean Air Act requirements or the requirement to submit redesignation requests before an area can officially be designated to attainment. As USEPA acts on our Clean Data Requests we will post information here.

AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC COMMENT - CANTON AREA: April 27, 2012: Ohio EPA is making available for public comment the draft of the “Redesignation and Maintenance Plan for the Canton-Massillon, OH Annual and 24-Hour PM 2.5 Standards Nonattainment Area.”  Air quality monitoring data for this area from 2009 to 2011demonstrated attainment for the 1997 annual PM2.5 standard of 15.0 ug/m3 and for the 2006 24-hour PM2.5 standard of 35 μg/m3.  Ohio EPA will request the U.S. EPA to redesignate the Canton-Massillon area to attainment with respect to the both standards and approve Ohio’s maintenance plan. Public comments on this draft are being accepted through June 6, 2012. Ohio EPA will also be holding a public hearing at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Stark Co Library, Sandy Valley Branch, 9754 Cleveland Avenue SE, Magnolia, OH  44643.
