Solid Waste Incinerator Facility Program
The Solid Waste Incinerator Facility Program regulates the management of solid waste prior to combustion at an incinerator facility and the handling of the resulting ash. Stringent air pollution regulations and alternative disposal options have caused incinerators to close down. Currently, there are no municipal solid waste incinerators operating in the State of Ohio.
The Central Office is responsible for:
- Rule, policy, and guidance document development;
- General interpretation of existing rules;
- Central Office Staff provides technical assistance to Ohio EPA District Offices, Health Departments, the regulated community, and the general public regarding the solid waste incinerator facility regulations.
The District Offices are responsible for:
- Technical assistance to health departments and other customers;
- Overseeing inspectors in approved local health departments;
- Direct oversight of regulated entities in areas where the local health department is unable to provide this service.
