Does the Ohio EPA require and/or conduct environmental assessments as part of residential property transactions?

No. Many mortgage lenders charge an "EPA" fee for an environmental assessment. The Ohio EPA does not receive this fee. In addition, the Ohio EPA does not require this assessment, nor does the agency conduct these assessments in most situations. The lending institution often hires a contractor to do an environmental assessment of the property. The agency may play a role in providing information to these contractors.
