to Receive Stimulus Funding

Ohio EPA appreciates your interest in covering the proposed lists of drinking water and water pollution control projects to be offered funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). To facilitate your reporting, we have created this online media kit. If you need more information or would like to schedule an interview to speak with a staff member about the project, please contact Melissa Fazekas by e-mail or phone at (614) 644-2782.

Background

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the federal stimulus bill, was signed into law on February 17, 2009. The law provides for additional funding for drinking water and water pollution control infrastructure projects and the National Clean Diesel Campaign in Ohio.

On April 23, 2009, Ohio EPA announced proposed project priority lists that include 69 drinking water projects in 52 communities and 255 water pollution control projects in 164 communities to be offered funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

On June 8, Ohio EPA Director Chris Korleski announced that project lists have been revised for the ARRA funding, resulting in 65 drinking water projects in 52 communities and 267 water pollution control projects in 160 communities. U.S. EPA approved Ohio's plan detailing how ARRA monies would be used and how projects would be selected on May 27, 2009. Ohio EPA’s analysis of these factors resulted in changes to the initial draft list of proposed projects which was originally released on April 23, 2009.
