September 10, 2020 Ohio EPA Holding Hearing about Proposed Stream Quality Designation Rules
Ohio EPA is proposing changes beneficial use designation rules for the Maumee River, Sandusky River, Huron River, and Portage River watersheds. A virtual public hearing about the amended rules will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020.
September 9, 2020 Photos Chosen as Judges’ Favorites in 2020 ‘Life on Lake Erie’ Photo Contest
Out of 177 photographs submitted by amateur photographers, 11 were recognized as judges’ favorites in the annual Life on Lake Erie photo contest. Each photographer was recognized during the Ohio Lake Erie Commission’s (OLEC) Sept. 9 virtual meeting. This year’s photos feature the variety of places and life that reflect Ohio’s Lake Erie. The winning photos can be found at the Ohio Lake Erie Commission website, www.lakeerie.ohio.gov.
September 9, 2020 Ohio Lake Erie Commission Approves H2Ohio Technology Assessment Program Advisory Council
To guide the State in addressing harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Lake Erie, today the Ohio Lake Erie Commission (OLEC) announced the creation of the H2Ohio Technology Assessment Program (TAP) Advisory Council. The TAP Advisory Council will evaluate and validate technology proposals and facilitate demonstration projects to determine their effectiveness at addressing HABs. OLEC has also selected Tetra Tech as a third-party technology vendor to assist the TAP Advisory Council in evaluating the most promising technologies.

August 7, 2020 Northwest Ohio Communities Receive $82 Million in Financing from Ohio EPA for Wastewater, Drinking Water Infrastructure Improvements
Communities in Northwest Ohio are receiving more than $82 million in low-interest rate funding from Ohio EPA to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and make other water quality improvements. The loans were approved between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2020.
July 21, 2020 Ohio EPA Announces H2Ohio Funding to Replace Failing Household Sewage Treatment Systems
Today, Ohio EPA announced that several communities will receive financial assistance as part of Gov. Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative to help low- to moderate-income homeowners repair and replace failing household sewage treatment systems (HSTS). Health departments in Erie, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Williams, and Wood counties will each receive $250,000 in H2Ohio funding to replace failing household sewage treatment systems.

May 28, 2020 Study of Minor Great Black Swamp Tributaries Released
Today, Ohio EPA today released a study examining water and sediment chemistry, habitat, fish, and other aquatic life from 50 small streams that flow into the Maumee River in northwest Ohio. These small streams drain approximately 1,040 square miles in portions of Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, and Wood counties.

April 23, 2020 Ohio Lake Erie Commission Releases 2020 Plan to Protect Lake
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission approved its 2020 Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan (LEPR) at its April quarterly meeting. The LEPR, last published in 2016, reflects actions that the Ohio Lake Erie Commission and its member agencies will take over the next several years to protect, preserve and restore our Great Lake and promote economic development for the region. The state’s actions complement federal and local partners’ initiatives in the Lake Erie basin and across the region.

March 19, 2020 Lake Erie Protection Fund Grants Available through Ohio Lake Erie Commission
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission announces applications are available for the Lake Erie Protection Fund Grant for projects in the Ohio Lake Erie watershed. Grants up to $50,000 will be considered during the current grant cycle. Applications are due May 1, 2020 with selections to be announced at the Ohio Lake Erie Commission meeting on June 17, 2020. Projects should address at least one of the Draft 2020 Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan Strategic Objectives.
