As a precautionary response to COVID-19, Ohio EPA is currently operating with most staff working remotely. After March 23, our district offices and Central Office will be temporarily closed and will have increasingly limited ability to receive deliveries, plans, etc. All entities are encouraged to submit plans, permit applications, etc., electronically where there are existing avenues to do so, such as the eBusiness Center (eBiz). Please refer to the list of available services on the main eBiz webpage. We encourage you to make use of all that apply, even if you have not used eBiz in the past. Plans under 25 MB can be emailed. For large plans over 25 MB, entities should work with the reviewer/division to upload via LiquidFiles. Directions for submitting docs via LiquidFiles is available on YouTube. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you in advance for your understanding. If you wish to send hard copies of documents to any of Ohio EPA’s district offices, the best method to ensure we receive these documents is to send them via U.S. Mail. Since all offices are closed, deliveries outside of U.S. Mail (FedEx, UPS) will likely be returned because the offices are closed and deliveries cannot be made.

Southwest Ohio Communities Receive $30 Million in Financing from Ohio EPA  for Wastewater, Drinking Water Infrastructure Improvements
Communities in Southwest Ohio have been awarded more than $30 million in low-interest rate funding from Ohio EPA to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and make other water quality improvements. The loans were approved between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2020. The lower interest rates and principal forgiveness will save these communities more than $5 million.

Study of Whitewater River Tributaries Released
The Whitewater River watershed in Southwest Ohio continues to be one of the highest quality river systems in Ohio. An Ohio EPA survey of the watershed found a high diversity of fish and other aquatic species. Ohio EPA released the study today.

Ohio EPA Announces H2Ohio Funding to Replace Lead Service Lines
Today, Ohio EPA announced that lead service lines and lead-containing fixtures will be removed and replaced at approximately 185 childcare facilities in Cincinnati as part of Gov. Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative.

Ohio EPA is accepting applications for $3.25 million in grants for publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations. Eligible applicants include public or private entities in the 26 counties that Ohio EPA has identified as eligible to receive funds from the grant program. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 30, 2020.

Study of Southwest Ohio River Tributaries Released
Two aquatic insects never previously recorded in Ohio were found during an Ohio EPA study of 65 streams that flow into the Ohio River in Southwest Ohio. Today, Ohio EPA released the study, which examines water quality, sediment chemistry, habitat, fish, and other aquatic life from small streams that drain portions of Adams, Brown, and Scioto counties.

Ohio EPA, ODOT Announce Diesel Emission Reduction Grants for Public Transit
The Ohio Diesel Emissions Reduction Grant (DERG) Program has awarded seven grants totaling almost $7 million for replacing 29 aging diesel transit buses with newer, cleaner diesel technology or alternative fuel technology. Nine of the new buses will be electric, 11 will be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and nine powered by new cleaner diesel technology.

Permits Issued for Rumpke Landfill Expansion
Ohio EPA has approved the permits required for a proposed expansion of Rumpke Waste and Recycling’s Hughes Road Landfill in Colerain Township. Today’s action includes a permit to expand the landfill, plus two air pollution permits and a modified wastewater discharge permit.

Ohio EPA is considering updates to water quality management plans prepared by six regional planning agencies. The plans describe and promote efficient and comprehensive programs for controlling water pollution in a defined geographic area.
