Ohio EPA Meeting Set for Vrooman Road Bridge Project
Information Session and Hearing Scheduled July 17
Ohio EPA will hold a public meeting to discuss the application to modify a previously permitted water quality certification to the Ohio Department of Transportation related to construction of a bridge over the Grand River.
An information session will begin at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Lake County Department of Utilities Richard L. Martin Business and Learning Centers, 1981 Blase Nemeth Road, Painesville, immediately followed by a hearing to accept public comments on the certification application.
The project is located approximately 1,000 feet upstream of the existing Vrooman Road bridge near Leroy and Perry Townships. The proposed modification would address erosion occurring near the new bridge piers. Discharges from the activity, if approved, would result in degradation to, or lowering of, the water quality of the Grand River. Proposed degradation of water quality would be offset through appropriate mitigation.
Ohio EPA will accept written comments on the certification application through July 24. Anyone may submit comments or request to be on the mailing list for information. To comment or receive information on the application, write to: Ohio EPA-DSW, Attn: Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio 43216-1049 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
